AHSRA Volunteering

The running of the Playing Field, Playground and Pavilion and all Fundraising to keep the facilities that we all enjoy maintained and improved is all done by volunteers from our Community – and we need more.

If you could spare some time, even just occasionally to:

  • volunteer at specific events
  • join our group fundraising volunteers who run activities and events in the Pavilion Room
  • help out with working parties for maintenance jobs

Please leave your details in our post box or email ashtonhsra@gmail.com and we’ll be in touch so that you can find out more.

Event Volunteers:

Before an event help could include putting up posters, putting up marquees, bunting, gazebos, a christmas tree, outdoor lighting, decorating the pavilion etc. At the events themselves help could include serving refreshments, marshalling the car park, serving at a BBQ or Bar, running a side stall or activity, playing the music, being a first aider etc – we’ve even had a village crier – and of course Santa himself comes along to volunteer.

Fundraising Volunteers:

This friendly group are always looking for additional volunteers to join them so that they can run one-off fundraising activities – maybe a pop-up café, an Easter or Halloween celebration – and raise vital income. It’s a great way to meet people. Find out more here: Pavilion Volunteering

Working Party Volunteers:

A few times each year there are sessions for general maintenance – maybe scattering bark chippings, mending fences, repairing playground equipment, pruning fruit trees, jet washing benches, tidying the garage etc.

In May 2023 as part of celebrations for the King’s coronation we reached out to new volunteers through the Big Help Out. “In tribute to His Majesty The King’s public service, The Big Help Out will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.”

Volunteering makes it happen:

Such a large tree it needed machinery !

November 2023 saw the arrival of a new permanent stand for the Christmas tree. The 4 feet of reinforced steel in 2 tonnes of concrete hidden under the grass should be good for the future.

In December 2023 a team of volunteers collected the Christmas tree, which was so kindly donated again this year, ‘planted’ it and dressed it ready for the big switch on.

The working party of volunteers taking down the Christmas tree in January 2024 were very grateful for the sunshine after what felt like weeks of rain.
Most of the tree went on to the compost heap and the trunk went off to be seasoned as logs.
